Just Who Is This Masked Man?
Published on March 2, 2004 By GemCityJoe In Blogging
I've been playing Lt. Columbo, which I often like to do and have been looking into the identity of the notorious Sir Peter Maxwell... Just who is this masked man?
Well I can not be 100% certain of my findings but I have come across some very interesting and juicy tid-bits that I am just dying to share with those interested.
Does anyone remember a blogger that went under the name of Captian Cornbread? I used to read alot of his blogs and commented on a few of them as well.
When all of a sudden I noticed that he stopped writting blogs.
The one thing that brought the Captain to mind was the fact that I had noticed that Sir Peter Maxwell had signed several of his blogs with, "over and out."
Now the Captain, as I well remembered used to sign all of his blogs as: "Capt. over and out! "
So I did a little search on the good ole Captain and come to find out that Captain Cornbread had stopped writting under that name and instead started writting blogs under his own name which is, "Brandon Costlow."
Whats even more interesting is that the last artical that was posted by Brandon was on February 7th 2004.
Then I looked to see just when it was that Sir Peter started posting on JoeUser. Come to find out his first post was February, 14th 2004. Exactly one week after Brandon stopped posting.
Now Brandon I do know lives in the Columbus, Ohio area and is not that old, maybe around 21 or younger.
Is it possible that Brandon and Sir Peter are the same? I do know that Sir Peter has a UK after the end of his email addy. I'm not sure just how significant that really is though, as he could have a friend in the UK and have email sent there and then forwarded to him back in the states or anywhere for that matter. Would he really want to fool people so badly though that he would go through all that trouble? Possibly... What do you think? GCJ

I think his IP was traced to the UK.

I found it interesting that on more than one occasion Sir Peter felt it necessary to reference his "business associate" Matt Mansfield and his dealings with the ladies, comments which now seem strangely out of place. I felt that this could be a very likely clue as so far as I have seen, he has never listed anyone else by first and last name, except for "friends" like Tony Blair. Another reference that I found unusual in that it turned up absolutely no relevant results on Google was a company he claimed that he once worked at, Faith Greeting Cards. On one occasion he quoted a conversation he had on Yahoo! with a person who's screen name is "itsmemiajoy". This person actually has a profile with a picture that seems to jive with his story of her being some kind of mail-order bride, which certainly frightens me if he was actually talking to an actual person as part of a joke.

As to whether he would go to all that trouble just to fool people, he set up a website, forums, e-mail address, recorded a voice sample, and has posted pictures which, admittedly are more than likely generic people and places. As for his website, I found it quite amusing that a millionaire, no matter how eccentric, would set up a site on Tripod/Lycos rather than just buying their own domain name.

I certainly hope someone finds this information helpful.

Firstly - who really cares?

Secondly, GCJ - i think you have WAAAAAAAY to much time on your hands. Learn ancient Aramiac or something instead.

Lies. All Lies. This has been explored already here.

And the final result was posted here.

We should have more respect for nobility IMO.

Dark-Star as you are something to do with the site I see you have looked into my password which contains the number 1982 - you are right that this year contains significance to me as it is the year my dear son Richard was born, Also you will find that 1956 was the year I was born so i'm not sure what your post proves or disproves.

>>Come on chaps is that the best you can do to try and disprove me, Concrete evidence is needed and I am not surprised none has been produced.>>

Over and Out

Sir Peter Maxwell

Something about the wording of that sentence just seems off to me. I don't know, it just seems more of an admission and a taunt than a defensive statement.

Of course, as skeptical as I am of the man, I do find it interesting that he seems to disappear rather early (for me here in the Eastern United States it's around 7:30 PM) and get up rather early, which would jive with him actually being British. I just felt like I should share for both sides here.

I would like the deal with a few points that Ben and a few others made:

1) I am UK based, I think it was karmagirl who checked my IP address and confirmed it was from a UK ISP - anyone else is welcome to check this

2) Matt Mansfield is someone who I spoke to online. The article I posted about him was an in joke between us. The name Matt Mansfield is the name he uses on the internet because obviously his name is Matt and he is from Mansfield in England. I have no idea what he real surname is!

3) Faith greeting cards didn't turn up any results on google because the company was liquidated in 1987

4) The conversation I had with itsmiajoy was to highlight the dangers to older western men posed by gold digging women. I have personal experience of being married to a lady from that part of the world and it wasn't pleasant. For the record itsmiajoy approached me online I didn't go looking for her.

Keep up the good work

I cannot fathom the concept of these peasants incessant efforts do disporive the Maxwell name.

You are most benevolent to protect youself and your family in the most gracious of fashions.

The world needs more Sir Peter Maxwell's...

Muggaz as always your loyalty and support to the Maxwell family is most welcome. If only the world had more Sir Peter Maxwell's maybe it would be a lot better place to live in!

This is true.  His IP is owned by a UK DSL company.  He uses a UK "yahoo" account and uses a free Lycos web page.  He is also online an awful lot considering that he is an "important businessman".  I can only assume that his "business" has been adversely effected.

I am called to your defense again My Lord...

He is also online an awful lot considering that he is an "important businessman". I can only assume that his "business" has been adversely effected.

Karma dear lass,

Surely you are aware that people can now communicate online with the internet? and many business transactions can take place in said fashion? Sir Peter is an esteemed business man, with a lot of money that is creating interest just by sheer volume. He does not have to busy himself with meeting un-important executives and board members face to face.

Please stop trying to dis-credit him. you are wasting your time, as it should be evident to all by now that Sir Peter is a most Noble man and he means no harm to anyone.

Karmagirl and a few other people I think you are a bit confused about the true nature of my business activity. I do not make any products or provide any services these days, I am a financier and basically all I do is speculate on the markets and takeover companies with a view to downsizing, asset stripping etc. All initial meetings are handled by my team, I only get involved if there is a problem or at the very later stages of a takeover. That is how I make my money!

Again the miscreants are attacking you my Lord. :

Such low acts are filling me with disgust, let them search my Lord, they can only find how good you are.

Karmagirl and a few other people I think you are a bit confused about the true nature of my business activity

Trust me, dear boy, I know exactly what your "business activity" is.

If you don't want my comments, don't mention my name

on Mar 03, 2004
karmagirl I feel I must correct you in the way you address me. In polite society you would address me as dear sir as appose to dear boy.

It is important that you maintain social standards when conversing with a man such as myself.
