I didn't want to let this Mother's day pass without taking just a moment to reflect on some of the good memories that my mother has created for me throughout my life. I am so happy and thankful to still have her here as I know that there are many who will only be able to visit their dear mothers at a graveside on this Mother's Day. Our mom will soon be 69 years old and the older she gets the sweeter she grows.
My sister and I lost our father just before we reached the age of 10. Mom had to take it from there as far as raising the two of us went. As I look back, I can see just what a wonderful job that she did too. There were always new school cloths and new shoes every school year. Always plenty to eat and I can never ever remember our utilities being shut off because of lack of money to pay the bills.
There were never any elaborate vacations but mom always did see to it that we had our share of fun in the summer time. There were the picnics in the park and visits out of town to our aunt, uncle and cousins. Ocasionally we would get to go to an amusement park togather or sometimes just get out and take a drive out along some old back roads or spend the night with friends.
I could always go to my mom and talk to her about anything. She was always there to listen and help us with solutions to our petty problems. She always made my sister and I feel that we were first in her life. She didn't have to tell us because it was something that we just knew by all the love she showed us.
At Christmas time there were always plenty of gifts and only heaven knows where they all came from but they would always be there. Always one big thing and several other small ones too.
Never a birthday went by without a card and some kind of gift.
Oh, I just don't see how she managed it all. I know now just how she must have felt when she would come in from work each night and tell us how tired she was, yet I hardly ever seen her just setting down in front of the television to relax. She would sometimes get a quick nap in, then it was off to the kitchen to prepare our supper and we never ran out of Pepsi.
These are just some of the things that I wanted to think about this Mother's Day and just say Thank you so much mom!
